And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall escape the sword of Hazael shall be slain by Jehu: and whosoever shall escape the sword of Jehu shall be slain by Eliseus.


Hast thou not seen Achab humbled before me? Therefore, because he hath humbled himself for my sake, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.


And a certain man bent his bow, shooting at a venture, and chanced to strike the king of Israel between the lungs and the stomach. But he said to the driver of his chariot: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the army, for I am grievously wounded.


And the battle was fought that day, and the king of Israel stood in his chariot against the Syrians. And he died in the evening: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.


But they were exceedingly afraid, and said: Behold, two kings could not stand before him, and how shall we be able to resist?


And when it was light, he went out, and standing said to all the people: You are just. If I conspired against my master, and slew him, who hath slain all these?


There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord.


And they shall say to him: What are these wounds in the midst of thy hands? And he shall say: With these I was wounded in the house of them that loved me.


For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.
