And they all wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over. The king also himself went over the brook Cedron: and all the people marched towards the way that looketh to the desert.


And he set the one in Bethel, and the other in Dan.


Moreover he also removed his mother Maacha, from being the princess in the sacrifices of Priapus, and in the grove which she had consecrated to him. And he destroyed her den, and broke in pieces the filthy idol, and burnt it by the torrent Cedron.


Nor was it enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nabat: but he also took to wife Jezabel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians. And he went, and served Baal, and adored him.


Nevertheless send now, and gather unto me all Israel, unto mount Carmel: and the prophets of Baal, four hundred and fifty: and the prophets of the groves four hundred, who eat at Jezabel's table.


And they took the bullock which he gave them, and dressed it. And they called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying: O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered: and they leaped over the altar that they had made.


And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.


And I will leave me seven thousand men in Israel, whose knees have not been bowed before Baal, and every mouth that hath not worshipped him kissing the hands.


And brought the statue out of Baal's temple, and burnt it,


And when they saw that there was very much money in the chest, the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and poured it out, and counted the money that was found in the house of the Lord.


And they forsook all the precepts of the Lord their God. And made to themselves two molten calves, and groves, and adored all the host of heaven. And they served Baal.


And he turned, and built up the high places which Ezechias his father had destroyed. And he set up altars to Baal, and made groves, as Achab the king of Israel had done. And he adored all the host of heaven, and served them.


And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the temple of the Lord.


He set also an idol of the grove, which he had made, in the temple of the Lord; concerning which the Lord said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this temple, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever.


Go to Helcias the high priest, that the money may be put together which is brought into the temple of the Lord, which the doorkeepers of the temple have gathered of the people.


And the altars that were upon the top of the upper chamber of Achaz, which the kings of Juda had made, and the altars which Manasses had made in the two courts of the temple of the Lord, the king broke down. And he ran from thence, and cast the ashes of them into the torrent Cedron.


Moreover the altar also that was at Bethel, and the high place, which Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin, had made: both the altar, and the high place he broke down and burnt, and reduced to powder, and burnt the grove.


And the general of the army took Seraias the chief priest, and Sophonias the second priest, and three doorkeepers.


Moreover Maacha the mother of king Asa he deposed from the royal authority, because she had made in a grove an idol of Priapus. And he entirely destroyed it, and breaking it into pieces burnt it at the torrent Cedron.


And he turned, and built again the high places which Ezechias his father had destroyed. And he built altars to Baalim, and made groves; and he adored all the host of heaven, and worshipped them.


He set also a graven and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.


Therefore upon this shall the iniquity of the house of Jacob be forgiven: and this is all the fruit, that the sin thereof should be taken away, when he shall have made all the stones of the altar as burnt stones broken in pieces. The groves and temples shall not stand.


And the general took Saraias the chief priest and Sophonias the second priest and the three keepers of the entry.


To steal, to murder, to commit adultery, to swear falsely, to offer to Baalim, and to go after strange gods, which you know not.


And he said to me: Son of man, dost thou see, thinkest thou, what these are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should depart far off from my sanctuary? And turn thee yet again and thou shalt see greater abominations.


If thou play the harlot, O Israel, at least let not Juda offend: and go ye not into Galgal, and come not up into Bethaven, and do not swear: The Lord liveth.


Come ye to Bethel, and do wickedly: to Galgal, and multiply transgressions: and bring in the morning your victims, your tithes in three days.


And I will stretch out my hand upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and I will destroy out of this place the remnant of Baal, and the names of the wardens of the temples with the priests:


Then were gathered together the chief priests and ancients of the people into the court of the high priest, who was called Caiphas:


AND when morning was come, all the chief priests and ancients of the people took counsel against Jesus, that they might put him to death.


WHEN Jesus had said these things, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he entered with his disciples.


Forsaking him, and serving Baal and Astaroth.
