Now Joas the son of Joachaz took the cities out of the hand of Benadad, the son of Hazael, which he had taken out of the hand of Joachaz his father by war. Three times did Joas beat him; and he restored the cities to Israel.


He restored the borders of Israel from the entrance of Emath, unto the sea of the wilderness, according to the word of the Lord the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonas the son of Amathi, the prophet, who was of Geth, which is in Opher.


And the Lord did not say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joas.


Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel. For the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over them.


And thou gavest them into the hands of their enemies, and they afflicted them. And in the time of their tribulation they cried to thee; and thou heardest from heaven. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies thou gavest them saviours, to save them from the hands of their enemies.


Moses said: I beseech thee, Lord, I am not eloquent from yesterday and the day before; and since thou hast spoken to thy servant, I have more impediment and slowness of tongue.


It shall be for a sign and for a testimony to the Lord of hosts, in the land of Egypt. For they shall cry to the Lord because of the oppressor: and he shall send them a Saviour and a defender, to deliver them.


And saviours shall come up into mount Sion to judge the mount of Esau: and the kingdom shall be for the Lord.


For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.


This shall be the law of the slayer that fleeth, whose life is to be saved: He that killeth his neighbour ignorantly, and who is proved to have had no hatred against him yesterday and the day before:


And the Lord sent Jerobaal, and Badan, and Jephte, and Samuel, and delivered you from the hand of your enemies round about: and you dwelt securely.


Then Jonathan called David and told him all these words. And Jonathan brought in David to Saul, and he was before him, as he had been yesterday and the day before.
