Then they rent their garments, and loading their asses again, returned into the town.


Because he is gone down to-day, and hath killed oxen, and fatlings, and many rams, and invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And they are eating and drinking before him, and saying: God save king Adonias:


But Joiada commended the centurions that were over the army, and said to them: Have her forth without the precinct of the temple; and whosoever shall follow her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest had said: Let her not be slain in the temple of the Lord.


And the king stood upon the step: and made a covenant with the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his ceremonies, with all their heart, and with all their soul, and to perform the words of this covenant, which were written in that book. And the people agreed to the covenant.


Then they made haste and taking every man his garment laid it under his feet, after the manner of a judgment-seat, and they sounded the trumpet, and said: Jehu is king.


And Joram turned his hand, and fleeing, said to Ochozias: There is treachery, Ochozias.


Moreover they that were near them even as far as Issachar, and Zabulon, and Nephtali, brought loaves on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen to eat: meal, figs, raisins, wine, oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel.


And standing up in his tribunal, he made a covenant before the Lord to walk after him, and keep his commandments, and testimonies, and justifications, with all his heart, and with all his soul, and to do the things that were written in that book which he had read.


When just men increase, the people shall rejoice: when the wicked shall bear rule, the people shall mourn.


And when he was now coming near the descent of mount Olivet, the whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works they had seen,
