And tell them: Thus saith the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and water of distress, till I return in peace.


And Asa was angry with the seer, and commanded him to be put in prison: for he was greatly enraged because of this thing. And he put to death many of the people at that time.


But he was wounded for our iniquities: he was bruised for our sins. The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.


And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying:


Then they took Jeremias and cast him into the dungeon of Melchias the son of Amelech, which was in the entry of the prison: and they let down Jeremias by ropes into the dungeon, wherein there was no water but mire. And Jeremias sunk into the mire.


Son of man, I have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel: and thou shalt hear the word out of my mouth and shalt tell it them from me.


And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.


For Herod had apprehended John and bound him, and put him into prison, because of Herodias, his brother's wife.


And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast.


Then they, fasting and praying, and imposing their hands upon them, sent them away.


But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up and entered into the city, and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.


And passing through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia.


But the Jews, moved with envy, and taking unto them some wicked men of the vulgar sort, and making a tumult, set the city in an uproar; and besetting Jason's house, sought to bring them out unto the people.


Therefore watch, keeping in memory, that for three years I ceased not, with tears to admonish every one of you night and day.


And when there arose a great dissension, the tribune fearing lest Paul should be pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.


I will hear thee, said he, when thy accusers come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.


But when two years were ended, Felix had for successor Portius Festus. And Felix being willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.


Which also I did at Jerusalem, and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority of the chief priests: and when they were put to death, I brought the sentence.


And Paul said: I would to God, that both in a little and in much, not only thou, but also all that hear me, this day, should become such as I also am, except these bands.


And he remained two whole years in his own hired lodging; and he received all that came in to him,


And they laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.


But by the grace of God, I am what I am; and his grace in me hath not been void, but I have laboured more abundantly than all they: yet not I, but the grace of God with me.


Even unto this hour we both hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no fixed abode;


Defraud not one another, except, perhaps, by consent, for a time, that you may give yourselves to prayer; and return together again, lest Satan tempt you for your incontinency.


In labour and painfulness, in much watchings, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.


For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ, for you Gentiles;


Yet so, that they exceed not the number of forty: lest thy brother depart shamefully torn before thy eyes.


So that my bands are made manifest in Christ, in all the court, and in all other places;


For you remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you, we preached among you the gospel of God.


For therefore we labor and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.


Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but labour with the gospel, according to the power of God,


Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer; but the word of God is not bound.


But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober.


And others had trial of mockeries and stripes, moreover also of bands and prisons.


Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.


Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty: with whom (if he come shortly) I will see you.


Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison that you may be tried: and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful until death: and I will give thee the crown of life.
