And after he rose up from the funeral obsequies, he spoke to the children of Heth, saying:


And Esau being forty years old, married wives, Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hethite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon, of the same place.


Who killed Abimelech the son of Jerobaal? Did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, and slew him in Thebes? Why did you go near the wall? Thou shalt say: Thy servant Urias the Hethite is also slain.


And the archers shot their arrows at thy servants from off the wall above. And some of the king's servants are slain: and thy servant Urias the Hethite is also dead.


And David sent to Joab, saying: Send me Urias the Hethite. And Joab sent Urias to David.


Why therefore hast thou despised the word of the Lord, to do evil in my sight? Thou hast killed Urias the Hethite with the sword; and hast taken his wife to be thy wife; and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.


And the king commanded Joab, and Abisai, and Ethai, saying: Save me the boy Absalom. And all the people heard the king giving charge to all the princes concerning Absalom.


And Joab the son of Sarvia, and the servants of David went out, and met them by the pool of Gabaon. And when they were come together, they sat down over against one another: the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side.


And there were the three sons of Sarvia there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asael. Now Asael was a most swift runner, like one of the roes that abide in the woods.


Abisai also, the brother of Joab the son of Sarvia, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred whom he slew. And he was renowned among the three,


Eliphelet the son of Aasbai the son of Machati, Eliam the son of Achitophel the Gelonite,


Urias the Hethite: thirty and seven in all.


And a chariot of four horses came out of Egypt, for six hundred sicles of silver, and a horse, for a hundred and fifty. And after this manner did all the kings of the Hethites and of Syria sell horses.


For the Lord had made them hear, in the camp of Syria, the noise of chariots, and of horses, and of a very great army. And they said one to another: Behold, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hethites, and of the Egyptians; and they are come upon us.


And again he said: By this you shall know that the Lord the living God is in the midst of you, and that he shall destroy before your sight the Chanaanite and the Hethite, the Hevite and the Pherezite, the Gergesite also and the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite.


So David and Abisai came to the people by night, and found Saul lying and sleeping in the tent, and his spear fixed in the ground at his head: and Abner and the people sleeping round about him.
