And Adonias the son of Haggith came to Bethsabee the mother of Solomon. And she said to him: Is thy coming peaceable? he answered: Peaceable.


But the spirit came upon Amasai the chief among thirty, and he said: We are thine, O David, and for thee, O son of Isai. Peace, Peace be to thee, and peace to thy helpers. For thy God helpeth thee. So David received them, and made them captains of the band.


And when the days of their feasting were gone about, Job sent to them, and sanctified them: and rising up early offered holocausts for every one of them. For he said: Lest perhaps my sons have sinned, and have blessed God in their hearts. So did Job all days.


And he said to him: Go to the people, and sanctify them today, and tomorrow; and let them wash their garments.


Gather together the people, sanctify the church, assemble the ancients, gather together the little ones, and them that suck at the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth from his bed, and the bride out of her bride chamber.


Be silent before the face of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is near, for the Lord hath prepared a victim, he hath sanctified his guests.


And the people went about, and gathering it, ground it in a mill, or beat it in a mortar, and boiled it in a pot: and made cakes thereof of the taste of bread tempered with oil.


But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice.

And Saul said nothing that day; for he thought it might have happened to him, that he was not clean, nor purified.
