That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.


And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the earth. And he measured with two lines, one to put to death, and one to save alive: and Moab was made to serve David under tribute.


And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and Syria served David under tribute. And the Lord preserved David in all his enterprises, whithersoever he went.


Thy father laid a grievous yoke upon us. Now therefore do thou take off a little of the grievous service of thy father, and of his most heavy yoke, which he put upon us: and we will serve thee.


Yea and the things also which thou didst not ask, I have given thee: to wit, riches and glory, as that no one hath been like thee among the kings in all days heretofore.


And the provision of Solomon for each day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal;


For he had all the country which was beyond the river, from Thaphsa to Gazan, and all the kings of those countries. And he had peace on every side round about.


Against him came up Salmanasar king of the Assyrians, and Osee became his servant, and paid him tribute.


And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat. And he acquired immense riches, and much glory.


Many also brought victims, and sacrifices to the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezechias king of Juda. And he was magnified thenceforth in the sight of all nations.


For there have been powerful kings in Jerusalem: who hare had dominion over all the country that is beyond the river, and have received tribute, and toll, and revenues.


Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; and with the just let them not be written.


And I said, Now have I begun: this is the change of the right hand of the most High.


And I will set thy bounds from the Red Sea to the sea of the Palestines: and from the desert to the river. I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands: and will drive them out from before you.


Who shall so feast and abound with delights as I?


Aleph. How doth the city sit solitary that was full of people! How is the mistress of the Gentiles become as a widow: the princes of provinces made tributary!


And thou wast adorned with gold and silver, and wast clothed with fine linen and embroidered work and many colours: thou didst eat fine flour and honey and oil: and wast made exceeding beautiful and wast advanced to be a queen.


Every place, that your foot shall tread upon, shall be yours. From the desert, and from Libanus, from the great river Euphrates unto the western sea shall be your borders.


From the desert and from Libanus unto the great river Euphrates: all the land of the Hethites unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your border.


But the children of Belial said: Shall this fellow be able to save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he dissembled as though he heard not.
