For inquire of the earliest generation, and investigate diligently the history of the fathers,

The Lord responded: "I will enter into a pact in the sight of all. I will perform signs which have never been seen on earth, nor among any nation, so that this people, in whose midst you are, may discern the terrible work of the Lord that I will do.

I made the earth, and I created man upon it. My hand stretched out the heavens, and I have commanded all their hosts.

Listen to this, elders, and pay close attention, all inhabitants of the land. Did this ever happen in your days or in the days of your fathers?
