Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth; He shall maintain his cause in judgment.


He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy; His righteousness endureth for ever: His horn shall be exalted with honor.


For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Neither hath he hid his face from him; But when he cried unto him, he heard.


He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.


He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; But he that hath mercy on the needy honoreth him.


Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; And he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.


When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, And with ignominy cometh reproach.


He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto Jehovah, And his good deed will he pay him again.


The soul of the wicked desireth evil: His neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.


He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; For he giveth of his bread to the poor.


He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.


He that augmenteth his substance by interest and increase, Gathereth it for him that hath pity on the poor.


Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.


And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:


In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.


Beware that there be not a base thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto Jehovah against thee, and it be sin unto thee.


that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
