Who is as the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high:


Who maketh a barren woman to dwell in a house, the joyful mother of children.


He that despiseth his friend, is mean of heart: but the wise man will hold his peace.


He that oppresseth the poor, upbraideth his Maker: but he that hath pity on the poor, honoureth him.


He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.


The wicked man when he is come into the depth of sine, contemneth: but ignominy and reproach follow him.


He that hath mercy on the poor, lendeth to the Lord: and he will repay him.


The soul of the wicked desireth evil, he will not have pity on his neighbour.


He that is inclined to mercy shall be blessed: for of his bread he hath given to the poor. He that maketh presents shall purchase victory and honour: but he carrieth away the souls of the receivers.


He that giveth to the poor, shall not want: he that despiseth his entreaty, shall suffer indigence.


He that heapeth together riches by usury and loan, gathereth them for him that will be bountiful to the poor.


And to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others, he spoke also this parable:


I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive.


Beware lest perhaps a wicked thought steal in upon thee, and thou say in thy heart: The seventh year of remission draweth nigh. And thou turn away thy eyes from thy poor brother, denying to lend him that which he asketh: lest he cry against thee to the Lord, and it become a sin unto thee.


That you become not slothful, but followers of them, who through faith and patience shall inherit the promises.
