Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I destroy: Him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.


Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; And they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.


A perverse man scattereth abroad strife; And a whisperer separateth chief friends.


An evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; And a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.


The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.


The north wind bringeth forth rain; So doth a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.


A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.


If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, All his servants are wicked.


Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?


Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am Jehovah.


And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.


And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?


And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.


Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered thee to-day into my hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee; but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Jehovah’s anointed.


David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.


And he said, Wherefore doth my lord pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?


Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be Jehovah that hath stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before Jehovah; for they have driven me out this day that I should not cleave unto the inheritance of Jehovah, saying, Go, serve other gods.
