These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.


Y’all’s father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God didn’t allow him to hurt me.


Y’all have reproached me ten times. Y’all aren’t ashamed to mistreat me.


but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland.


Therefore ʜᴇ swore to them that ʜᴇ would overthrow them in the wilderness,


They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.


They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt?


The people murmured against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”


The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;


So the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Y’all give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do y’all quarrel with me? Why do y’all test YHWH?”


The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”


He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested YHWH, saying, “Is YHWH among us, or not?”


When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, you must gods for us, which will go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”


They said to them, “May YHWH look at y’all and judge, because y’all have made us a foul odor in the eyes of Pharaoh, and his servants, putting a sword in their hand to kill us!”


You see many things, but don’t observe. His ears are open, but he doesn’t listen.


In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.


But now we call the arrogant blessed. Indeed, those who do evil are build up, those who test God escape!’”


The people were complaining in the ears of YHWH and when YHWH heard it, ʜɪꜱ anger burned. Then fire from YHWH burned among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.


The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly; and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, “Who will give us meat to eat?


Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.


YHWH said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? How long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?


All the children of Israel grumbled against Moses and against Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt, or that we had died in this wilderness!


except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have followed YHWH completely.’


Jesus said to him, “It is also written, ‘You must not test the Lord [YHWH], your God.’”


Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were cut down in the wilderness.


Let us not test Christ, as some of them did, and perished by the serpents.


You must remember and not forget how you provoked YHWH your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until y’all came to this place, y’all have been rebellious against YHWH.


where y’all’s ancestors tested and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years.
