He said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are; and an angel spoke to me by the word of YHWH, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” He lied to him.


Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Should I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or should I refrain?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”


“If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit


As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.


They also reel with wine, and stagger with beer. The priest and the prophet reel with beer. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with beer. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.


The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail.


Then YHWH said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They are prophesying to y’all a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.


In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.”


They say-and-say to those who despise me, ‘YHWH has said, “Y’all will have peace;”’ and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, ‘No disaster will come to y’all.’


“I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’


See how I am against those who prophesy lying dreams,” says YHWH, “who tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting; yet I didn’t send them or command them. They don’t profit this people at all,” says YHWH.


Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! YHWH has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.


The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will y’all do at the end of it?


Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you. They have not uncovered your iniquity, to reverse your captivity, but have seen for you false revelations and causes of banishment.


Because you have grieved the heart of the righteous with lies, those whom I have not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way and be saved alive.


They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.


Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money; yet they lean on YHWH, and say, “Isn’t YHWH among us? No disaster will come on us.”


YHWH says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray—for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim, “Peace!” and whoever doesn’t provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him:


For such people don’t serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly. By their smooth and flattering speech, they deceive the hearts of the innocent.


whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, whose glory is in their shame, and who set their mind on earthly things.


Beloved, y’all must not believe every spirit. Instead, test the spirits to determine whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
