In that day that a man will keep alive a young cow, and two sheep.


As for me, I am going to remain at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who will come to us. But y’all are to gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your* vessels, and dwell in the cities that y’all have captured.”


Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, women, children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon,


the men, the women, the children, the king’s daughters, and every person who Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.


But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poorest of the land to be vineyard keepers and farmers.
