King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest a drawing of the altar and plans to build it.


When the king had come from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and the king came near to the altar, and offered on it.


The bronze altar, which was before YHWH, he brought from the front of the house, from between his altar and the house of YHWH, and put it on the north side of his altar.


Urijah the priest did so, according to all that King Ahaz commanded.


He built altars in the house of YHWH, of which YHWH said, “I will put my name in Jerusalem.”


He set the engraved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which YHWH said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever;


He built altars in the house of YHWH, of which YHWH said, “My name will remain in Jerusalem forever.”


I will call as faithful witnesses: Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.”


For both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness,” says YHWH.

Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment, because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.


For am I now seeking the favor of humans or of God? Or am I striving to please humans? For if I were still pleasing humans, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ.
