but my lovingkindness will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you.


Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of YHWH. I saw YHWH sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.


YHWH said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’


Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.


Though they raise their children, I will bereave them, until no one is left. Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them!


She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” He awoke out of his sleep, and said, “I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free.” But he didn’t know that YHWH had departed from him.


Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested and leaned on them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.


Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,


the Spirit of God came mightily on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger burned hot.


Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.


Let our lord command your servants in front of you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with his hand, and you will be well.”


When the spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.


On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;


Saul was afraid of David, because YHWH was with him, and had departed from Saul.


Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed! The Philistines are making war against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me by prophets or by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I should do.”
