and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, to each a cake of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people departed, each to his house.


For Hezekiah king of Judah gave the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for offerings, and the princes gave the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep. And the priests sanctified themselves in great numbers.


Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”


And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.


The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.


He who oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.


He who has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.


if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.


Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?


And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the dumb, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them,


And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.


But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, everything is clean for you.


He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid.


and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”


So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.’


So Peter rose and went with them. And when he had come, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them.


and the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled; that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

Now a bishop must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, dignified, hospitable, an apt teacher,


and she must be well attested for her good deeds, as one who has brought up children, shown hospitality, washed the feet of the saints, relieved the afflicted, and devoted herself to doing good in every way.


but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled;


For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.


Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
