Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of my words’?


declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My purpose shall stand, and I will fulfill my intention,”


At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.


“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done.” [


Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”] And they cast lots to divide his clothing.


So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me.


“Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour.


Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”


So then he has mercy on whomever he chooses, and he hardens the heart of whomever he chooses.


In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will,


he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ,


This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,


who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,
