“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.


just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.


For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.


No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.


Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.


For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures,


And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them.


For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.


and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.


But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.


For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died.


Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever.


So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober;


who gave himself a ransom for all —this was attested at the right time.


The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him;


He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.


He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.


For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,
