For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,


Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!


If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!


The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.


I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.


My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.


Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll – are they not in your record?


People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
