because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord.


When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place.


I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.


When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me.


I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.


In my alarm I said, ‘I am cut off from your sight!’ Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.


‘Go and tell Hezekiah, “This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.


You heard my plea: ‘Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.’


He said: ‘In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.


‘When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
