Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, ‘This is what God says: “Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.” ’


At the breath of God they perish; at the blast of his anger they are no more.


You will also leave that place with your hands on your head, for the Lord has rejected those you trust; you will not be helped by them.


He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will remain until I deal with him, declares the Lord. If you fight against the Babylonians, you will not succeed.” ’


Since the Amalekites and the Canaanites are living in the valleys, turn back tomorrow and set out towards the desert along the route to the Red Sea.’


But the Lord said to me, ‘Tell them, “Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.” ’


Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?’
