They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.


Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defence; he has become my salvation.’


Say to him, “Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smouldering stubs of firewood – because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.


‘ “Alas, sword of the Lord, how long till you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still.”


‘And you, son of man, prophesy and say, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says about the Ammonites and their insults: ‘ “A sword, a sword, drawn for the slaughter, polished to consume and to flash like lightning!


When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.


And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.


But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?’


Stand firm, and you will win life.


When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.’


It is written: “And he was numbered with the transgressors”; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfilment.’


‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me.


Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
