His heart was drawn to Dinah daughter of Jacob; he loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.


I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women.


They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, ‘You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.’ Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.


Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house.


I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.


Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.


So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no-one separate.’


Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.


Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’


But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.


The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.


‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’


Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.


If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow – to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him –


but all of you who held fast to the Lord your God are still alive today.


After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.


David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel, and they both were his wives.
