The tents of marauders are undisturbed, and those who provoke God are secure – those whom God has in his hand.


He may let them rest in a feeling of security, but his eyes are on their ways.


This is what the wicked are like – always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.


For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.


‘ “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.


She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold – which they used for Baal.


Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop – a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.


that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.


Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’


He thought to himself, “What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.”


Yet he has not left himself without testimony: he has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.’
