22 ‘The Mighty One, God, the Lord! The Mighty One, God, the Lord! He knows! And let Israel know! If this has been in rebellion or disobedience to the Lord, do not spare us this day.

then hear from heaven, your dwelling-place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart),


though you know that I am not guilty and that no-one can rescue me from your hand?


But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.


then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint.


Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures for ever.


he will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.


I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as you know.


would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?


Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.


The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.


God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the ‘gods’:


For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.


All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols – worship him, all you gods!


Now I know that the Lord is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly.’


Yet you know me, Lord; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter!


‘I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.’


‘The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.


The king said to Daniel, ‘Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.’


Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the Lord’s wrath, until he pleads my case and upholds my cause. He will bring me out into the light; I will see his righteousness.

Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!


The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised for ever, knows that I am not lying.


Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.


For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.


who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no-one has seen or can see. To him be honour and might for ever. Amen.


Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.


Then Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the heads of the clans of Israel:


On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of kings and lord of lords.

‘Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.
