Joshua 10:12 - New International Version (Anglicised)

12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’

Abner son of Ner, together with the men of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, left Mahanaim and went to Gibeon.


‘It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,’ said Hezekiah. ‘Rather, let it go back ten steps.’


Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.


Isaiah answered, ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?’


and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.


Zorah, Aijalon and Hebron. These were fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.


He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; he seals off the light of the stars.


Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.

Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear.


Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.’


and contrary to my command has worshipped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky,


And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshipping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.


So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.

Then Elon died and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.


From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera.


Then Samuel called on the Lord, and that same day the Lord sent thunder and rain. So all the people stood in awe of the Lord and of Samuel.


That day, after the Israelites had struck down the Philistines from Michmash to Aijalon, they were exhausted.
