Listen! My beloved! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.


I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking: ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.’


Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.


I have other sheep that are not of this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.


My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.


The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.


But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognise a stranger’s voice.’


All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them.


Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves me.


I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.


‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’


The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.


Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.


Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.


Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body has finished with sin.


not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
