You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?


‘Have you not noticed that these people are saying, “The Lord has rejected the two kingdoms he chose”? So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation.


The people of Israel and the people of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to me,’ declares the Lord.


Your elder sister was Samaria, who lived to the north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you with her daughters, was Sodom.


You not only followed their ways and copied their detestable practices, but in all your ways you soon became more depraved than they.


My people are determined to turn from me. Even though they call me God Most High, I will by no means exalt them.


Return, Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall!


People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.


Judah has been unfaithful. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the Lord loves by marrying women who worship a foreign god.
