‘ “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favouritism to the great, but judge your neighbour fairly.


When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:


Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?


At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.


Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism


Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.


But if an unbeliever or an enquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all,


‘For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.


Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.’


Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
