the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.


For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you gave them into the hands of the neighbouring peoples.


He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.


Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.


What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?


I will not accuse them for ever, nor will I always be angry, for then they would faint away because of me – the very people I have created.


Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them.


Therefore this is what the Lord says: “I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.


From the time I brought your ancestors up from Egypt until today, I warned them again and again, saying, ‘Obey me.’


I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.


Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.


‘You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: you always resist the Holy Spirit!
