So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.


Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, ‘With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.’


Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.’


He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.


Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth


The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.


‘Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give.


I looked, and I saw the likeness of a throne of lapis lazuli above the vault that was over the heads of the cherubim.

So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
