Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and travelled throughout Egypt.


How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!


Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.

The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.


But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself in this way.


The angel said to him, ‘I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’
