Then the Pharisees went out and held council against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.


Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying,


And Jesus said to them, Take heed, and beware the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.


And the Pharisees came to Him, tempting Him and saying to Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?


Then the Pharisees left and took counsel that they might entangle Him in words.


But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?


On that day the Sadducees came to Him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked Him,


saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.


And on the next day, which was after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered to Pilate,


For I say to you that unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven.


And when the Pharisees saw, they said to His disciples, Why does your master eat with tax-collectors and sinners?


And tempting Him, the Pharisees came to Him and asked Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?


Shall we give, or shall we not give? But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, Why do you tempt Me? Bring me a denarius so that I may see.


Then the Sadducees came to Him, who say there is no resurrection. And they asked Him, saying,


And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted Him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?


And others, tempting Him, sought a sign from Heaven from him.


But He perceived their craftiness and said to them, Why do you tempt Me?


And certain of the Sadducees came, those speaking against a resurrection, that it was not to be. And they asked Him,


They said this, tempting Him so that they might have reason to accuse Him. But bending down, Jesus wrote on the ground with His finger, not appearing to hear.


And as they spoke to the people, the priests, and the temple commander, and the Sadducees came on them,


And rising up, the high priest, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees) were filled with anger,


For the Jews ask for a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom;
