And it happened after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Behold me.


But, in regard to the ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon who sent to him to ask about the wonder that was done in the land, God left him in order to try him, to know all that was in his heart.


And when he was in affliction, he sought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.


and his prayer, and his entreaty, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places and set up Asherahs and graven images, before he was humbled, behold, they are written among the Matters of the Seers.


yet You in Your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them in the way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to show them light and the way in which they should go.


so that He may turn man from his act, that He might hide pride from man.


Bless Jehovah, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits;


Our fathers did not understand Your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, but rebelled at the sea, even at the Red Sea.


To Him who led His people through the wilderness; for His mercy endures forever.


I will remember the works of Jehovah; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.


You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.


And he cried to Jehovah. And Jehovah showed him a tree. And when he had cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a decree and a law for them, and there He tested them.


And the sons of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to a land in which people lived. They ate manna until they came into the borders of the land of Canaan.


Then Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from the heavens for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain amount every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Law or not.


And Moses said to the people, Do not fear, for God has come to test you, and so that His fear may be before your faces, so that you may not sin.


The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.


And the pride of man shall be bowed down, and the loftiness of men shall be made low; and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.


Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of dry places, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man lived?


I am Jehovah your God. Walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them,


Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years through the wilderness to possess the land of the Amorite.


And your sons shall feed in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications, until your dead bodies have wasted in the wilderness.


I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.


and did not need that anyone should testify of man. For He knew what was in man.


And it happened, in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that Jehovah had commanded him concerning them;


who went in the way before you to search you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in a cloud by day.


you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.


For Jehovah your God has blessed you in all the works of your hand. He knows your walking through this great wilderness. Jehovah your God has been with you these forty years. You have lacked nothing.


And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not become old on you, and your shoe has not become old on your foot.


Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.


You shall not be afraid of them, but shall well remember what Jehovah your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.


who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, so that He might humble you and so that He might prove you, to do you good in your latter end,


knowing that the trying of your faith works patience.


Be humbled before the Lord, and He will lift you up.


But He gives more grace. Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.


so that the trial of your faith (being much more precious than that of gold that perishes, but being proven through fire) might be found to praise and honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,


And I will kill her children with death. And all the churches will know that I am He who searches the reins and hearts, and I will give to every one of you according to your works.


so that by them I may test Israel, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept it, or not.


And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commands of Jehovah, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
