Why do the heathen rage, And the people imagine a vain thing?


Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?


Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked: For they cast iniquity upon me, And in wrath they hate me.


Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.


I have considered the days of old, The years of ancient times.


Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.


And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:


and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;


And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.


And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.


When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.


For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
