And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.


And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.


Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.


And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth–el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth–el and Ha´i;


And the vale of Siddim was full of slime pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomor´rah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.


and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;


The Amal´ekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jeb´usites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.


And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned.


And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Se´ir, even unto Hormah.

and it went out to the south side to Ma´aleh–acrab´bim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Ka´desh–barne´a, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Kar´kaa:


And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into a harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.


And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.


And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.


And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
