King David was now a very old man, and although his servants covered him with blankets, he could not keep warm.


David said, “The Lord God of Israel has given peace to his people, and he himself will live in Jerusalem forever.


This is the list of the Israelite heads of families and clan leaders and their officials who administered the work of the kingdom. Each month of the year a different group of twenty-four thousand men was on duty under the commander for that month.


King Abijah died and was buried in the royal tombs in David's City. His son Asa succeeded him as king, and under Asa the land enjoyed peace for ten years.


Because he abolished the pagan places of worship and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, the kingdom was at peace under his rule.


so Jehoshaphat ruled in peace, and God gave him security on every side.


He stops wars all over the world; he breaks bows, destroys spears, and sets shields on fire.


As cattle are led into a fertile valley, so the Lord gave his people rest. He led his people and brought honor to his name.


and said, “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and am no longer able to be your leader. And besides this, the Lord has told me that I will not cross the Jordan.


Joshua captured the whole land, as the Lord had commanded Moses. Joshua gave it to the Israelites as their own and divided it into portions, one for each tribe. So the people rested from war.


Joshua was now very old. The Lord said to him, “You are very old, but there is still much land to be taken:


The Lord gave them peace throughout the land, just as he had promised their ancestors. Not one of all their enemies had been able to stand against them, because the Lord gave the Israelites the victory over all their enemies.


Now, as he promised, the Lord your God has given the other Israelites peace. So go back home to the land which you claimed for your own, the land on the east side of the Jordan, that Moses, the Lord's servant, gave you.


and now you have him to lead you. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are with you. I have been your leader from my youth until now.
