12 But do not gloat over the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune; do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their ruin; do not boast in the day of distress.

They of the west are appalled at his day, and horror seizes them of the east.


“If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him who hated me, or exulted when evil overtook him


I can count all my bones— they stare and gloat over me;


Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.


But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered; they gathered together against me; wretches whom I did not know tore at me without ceasing;


but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming.


For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.


My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.


My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.


Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.


By your servants you have mocked the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon, to cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest cypresses, to come to its remotest height, its most fruitful forest.


All your enemies rail against you; they hiss, they gnash their teeth, they cry: “We have swallowed her! Ah, this is the day we longed for; now we have it; we see it!”


Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz; but to you also the cup shall pass; you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.


And you shall know that I am the Lord. “I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.’


As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord.


therefore thus says the Lord God: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey.


Now many nations are assembled against you, saying, “Let her be defiled, and let our eyes gaze upon Zion.”


And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,


So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!


For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error.


These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.


And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.


Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
