Then Absalom commanded his servants, “Mark when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Do not fear; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.”


And they went out at noon, while Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the thirty-two kings who helped him.


I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.


Sorrow is better than laughter, for by sadness of face the heart is made glad.


It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools.


My heart staggers; horror has appalled me; the twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling.


While they are inflamed I will prepare them a feast and make them drunk, that they may become merry, then sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, declares the Lord.
