Zechariah 10:5 - Easy To Read Version

5 \{They will defeat their enemy\}—it will be like soldiers marching through mud in the streets. They will fight, and since the Lord is with them, they will defeat even the enemy soldiers riding horses.

I beat my enemies into pieces. They were like dust on the ground. I crushed my enemies. I walked on them like mud in the streets.


Then the earth shook. It trembled. The foundations of heaven shook. Why? Because the Lord was angry!


Jehu said {to them}, “Throw Jezebel down!”


I beat my enemies to pieces.\par They were like dust\par blowing in the wind.\par I crushed them into small pieces.\par


Some people trust their chariots. {\cf2\super [117]} \par Other people trust their soldiers.\par But we remember the Lord our God.\par


A king is not saved\par by his own great power.\par A strong soldier is not saved\par by his own great strength.\par


My God, with your help,\par we will push back our enemies.\par With your name,\par we will walk on our enemies.\par


Put your sword on.\par Put on your glorious uniform.\par


I will send Assyria to fight against the people that do evil things. I am angry at those people, and I will command Assyria to fight against them. Assyria will defeat them and Assyria will take their wealth from them. Israel will become like dirt for Assyria to trample (walk on) in the streets.


The Lord’s power is on this mountain.\par And Moab {\cf2\super [239]} will be defeated.\par The Lord will trample (walk on) the enemy.\par It will be like walking on straw\par in a pile of waste.\par


Look at the people going down to Egypt for help. The people ask for horses. They think horses will save them. The people hope the chariots {\cf2\super [289]} and horse soldiers from Egypt will protect them. The people think they are safe because that army is very big. The people don’t trust the Holy One of Israel (God). The people don’t ask the Lord for help.


You will look for the people\par that were against you,\par but you will not be able to find them.\par The people that fought against you\par will disappear completely.\par


“I woke a person in the north. {\cf2\super [378]} \par He is coming from the east\par where the sun rises.\par He worships my name.\par A man that makes pots walks on wet clay.\par In the same way, this special man will trample (walk on) kings.”\par


All you nations, prepare for war!\par You will be defeated.\par Listen, all you faraway countries!\par Prepare for battle!\par You will be defeated.\par


You will come from your place out of the far north. And you will bring many people with you. All of them will ride on horses. You will be a large and a powerful army.


People with bows \{and arrows\} will not survive. Fast runners will not escape. People on horses will not escape alive. At that time, even very brave soldiers will run away. They will not take the time to put their clothes on.” The Lord said these things!


But the survivors {\cf2\super [67]} from Jacob in the nations\par scattered among those people\par will be like a lion\par among the animals in the forest.\par They will be like a young lion\par among flocks of sheep.\par If the lion passes through,\par he goes where he wants to go.\par If he attacks an animal,\par then no one can save that animal.\par \{The survivors will be like that.\}\par


My enemy said to me,\par “Where is the Lord your God?”\par But my enemy will see this,\par and she will be ashamed.\par At that time, I will laugh at her. {\cf2\super [81]} \par People will walk over her,\par like mud in the streets.\par


And I will overthrow many kings and kingdoms. I will destroy the power of the kingdoms of those other people. I will destroy their chariots {\cf2\super [12]} and their riders. I will defeat their war horses and riders. Those armies are friends now, but they will turn against each other and kill each other with swords.


But at that time, I will scare the horse, and the soldier riding it will panic. I will make all the enemy horses blind, but my eyes will be open—and I will be watching over Judah’s family.


But the Lord will protect the people in Jerusalem. Even the clumsiest person will be a great soldier like David. And the men from David’s family will be like gods—like the Lord’s own angel leading the people.


Then the Lord will go to war with those nations. It will be a real battle.


Judah, I will use you like a bow.\par Ephraim I will use you like arrows.\par Israel, I will use you like a sword\par to fight against the people of Greece.\par


Teach those people to obey everything that I have told you. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will continue with you until the end of the world.”


The devil came to Jesus to tempt him. The devil said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these rocks to become bread.”


Jesus said to them, “What are you talking about?”


A Jew named Apollos came to Ephesus. Apollos was born in the city of Alexandria. He was an educated man. He knew very much about the Scriptures. {\cf2\super [370]}


The Egyptians taught Moses about all the things they knew. He was powerful in the things he said and did.


We fight with weapons that are different from the weapons the world uses. Our weapons have power from God. These weapons can destroy \{the enemy’s\} strong places. We destroy \{people’s\} arguments.


“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and you see horses, chariots, [126] and many more people than you have, you must not be afraid of them. Why? Because the Lord your God is with you—and the Lord brought you out of Egypt.


But the Lord stayed with me. The Lord gave me strength so that I could tell the Good News {\cf2\super [23]} everywhere. The Lord wanted all the non-Jews to hear that Good News. So I was saved from the lion’s (enemy’s) mouth.


I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.


That had never happened before. And it has never happened again! That was the day the Lord obeyed a man. The Lord really was fighting for Israel!


Joshua captured all those cities and their kings on one trip. Joshua did this because the Lord God of Israel was fighting for Israel.


Then I saw an angel standing in the sun. The angel said with a loud voice to all the birds flying in the sky, “Come together for the great supper of God.


One of the servants said, “There is a man named Jesse living in Bethlehem. I saw Jesse’s son. He knows how to play the harp. He is also a brave man and fights well. He is smart and handsome. And the Lord is with him.”
