Zechariah 10:3 - Easy To Read Version

3 The Lord says, “I am very angry at the shepherds (leaders). I made those leaders responsible for what happens to my sheep (people).” (The people of Judah are God’s flock. And the Lord All-Powerful really does take care of his flock. He cares for them like a soldier cares for his beautiful war horse.)

When the trumpet sounds,\par the horse shouts, ‘hurray!’\par He smells the battle from far away.\par He hears the commanders shouting orders\par and all the other sounds of the battle.\par


The people believed that God had sent Moses. The people of Israel knew that God had seen their troubles, and that he had come to help them. So they bowed down and worshiped God.


My Master will finish doing the things he planned to Jerusalem and Mount Zion. {\cf2\super [116]} Then the Lord will punish Assyria. {\cf2\super [117]} The king of Assyria is very proud. His pride made him do many bad things. So God will punish him.


At that time, the Lord will judge\par the heavenly armies in heaven\par and the earthly kings on earth.\par


The shepherds (leaders) are stupid.\par They don’t try to find the Lord.\par They are not wise,\par so their flocks (people) are scattered and lost.\par


The Lord All-Powerful said, “I will soon punish those men from Anathoth. Their young men will die in war. Their sons and daughters will die from hunger.


“But when the 70 years have passed, I will punish the king of Babylon. I will punish the nation of Babylon.” This message is from the Lord. “I will punish the land of the Babylonians for their sins. I will make that land a desert forever.


Shepherds (leaders), you should be leading\par the sheep (people).\par Start crying you great leaders!\par Roll around on the ground in pain,\par you leaders of the sheep (people).\par Why? Because it is now time\par for your slaughter. {\cf2\super [203]} \par \{I will scatter your sheep.\}\par They will scatter everywhere,\par like pieces flying from a broken jar.\par


“My people have been like lost sheep.\par Their shepherds (leaders)\par led them the wrong way,\par Their leaders made them wander around\par in the mountains and hills.\par They forgot where their resting place is.\par


The Lord my Master says, “I, myself, will be their Shepherd. I will search for my sheep. I will look out for them.


If a shepherd is with his sheep when they begin to wander away, then he will go searching for them. In the same way I will search for my sheep. I will save my sheep. I will bring them back from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [274]} speak against the shepherds (leaders) of Israel for me. Speak to them for me. Tell them that the Lord and Master says these things, ‘You shepherds of Israel have only been feeding yourselves. It will be very bad for you! Why don’t you shepherds feed the flock?


“‘The northern king will use lies and smooth talking to trick the Jews that quit following the holy agreement. Those Jews will sin even worse. But the Jews that know God and obey him will be strong. They will fight back!


\{The Lord said,\} “On the Lord’s day of sacrifice, I will punish the king’s sons and other leaders. I will punish all the people wearing clothes from other countries.


Then that land will belong to the survivors {\cf2\super [16]} from Judah. The Lord will remember those people from Judah. Those people are prisoners in a foreign country. But the Lord will bring them back. Then the people from Judah will let their sheep eat the grass in those fields. In the evenings, they will lie down in the empty houses of Ashkelon.


Oh my worthless shepherd.\par You abandoned my sheep.\par Punish him!\par Hit his right arm and right eye\par with a sword.\par His right arm will be useless.\par His right eye will be blind.\par


“Praise to the Lord God of Israel (the Jews).\par God has come to help his people\par and has given them freedom.\par


People who don’t believe are living all around you. Those people may say that you are doing wrong. So live good lives. Then they will see the good things you do, and they will give glory to God on that day when he comes.


While Naomi was in the hill country of Moab, she heard that the Lord had helped his people. He had given food to his people {in Judah}. So Naomi decided to leave the hill country of Moab and go back home. Her daughters-in-law also decided to go with her.
