After she had finished her time of sadness, David sent servants to take her to his house. She became David’s wife and gave birth to a son for David. But the Lord did not like the bad thing David had done.


When it is time to eat,\par I only sigh with sadness\par not with joy.\par My complaints pour out like water.\par


All my bones ache at night.\par Pain never stops chewing on me.\par


My skin is burnt and peeling away.\par My body is hot with fever.\par


My God, my God!\par Why did you leave me?\par You are too far away to save me!\par You are too far away to hear my cries for help!\par


You punished me.\par Now my whole body is sore.\par I sinned, \{and you punished me\}.\par So all my bones hurt.\par


I hurt so much I can’t feel anything.\par My pounding heart makes me scream!\par


Make me happy!\par Tell me how to be happy again.\par Let the bones you crushed be happy again!\par


Lord, be kind to me.\par I am sick and weak.\par Heal me!\par My bones are shaking.\par


Happiness is like good medicine. But sorrow is like a sickness.


A person that hides his sins will not be successful. But a person that confesses his sins and stops doing wrong will receive mercy.


Your people became weak. They fell on the ground and lay there. Those people were lying on every street corner. They were like animals caught in a net. They were punished from the Lord’s anger until they could not accept any more punishment. When God said he would give them more punishment, they became very weak.


These people did evil things,\par and it made me angry.\par So, I punished Israel.\par I turned away from him\par because I was angry.\par And Israel left me.\par He went wherever he wanted.\par


We are all \{very sad\},\par making sad sounds like doves and bears.\par We are waiting for a time\par when people are fair.\par But there is no fairness yet.\par We are waiting to be saved,\par but salvation is still far away.\par


Judah suffered very much.\par And then Judah was taken into captivity.\par Judah lives among other nations.\par But she has found no rest.\par The people that chased her caught her.\par They caught her in the narrow valleys.\par


He wore out my flesh and skin.\par He broke my bones.\par


Even when I cry out and ask for help,\par the Lord does not listen to my prayer.\par


They never call to me from their hearts.\par Yes, they cry on their beds.\par And they cut themselves\par when they ask for grain and\par new wine.\par But \{in their hearts,\} they have turned away\par from me.\par


Then these people took the bones of Saul and his three sons and buried them under the big tree in Jabesh. Then the people of Jabesh showed their sadness—they did not eat for seven days.
