From that time Jesus began telling his followers that he must go to Jerusalem. Jesus explained that the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law would make him suffer many things. And Jesus told his followers that he must be killed. Then, on the third day, he would be raised from death.


They said, “Sir, we remember that while that liar was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise from death.’


His people will turn against him and give him to the non-Jewish people. {\cf2\super [295]} The non-Jews will laugh at him, insult him, and spit on him.


The apostles tried to understand this, but they could not; the meaning was hidden from them.


We were hoping that Jesus would be the one to free Israel (the Jews). But then all this happened. And now something else: It has been three days since \{Jesus was killed\},


Jesus said that the Son of Man {\cf2\super [387]} must be given to evil men, be killed on a cross, and rise from death on the third day.”
