People made fun of him, and his friends left him. He was a man that had much pain. He knew sickness very well. People did not even give him the honor of looking at him. We did not even notice him.


From that time Jesus began telling his followers that he must go to Jerusalem. Jesus explained that the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law would make him suffer many things. And Jesus told his followers that he must be killed. Then, on the third day, he would be raised from death.


Jesus said to them, “Surely you have read this in the Scriptures {\cf2\super [300]} :


Jesus said, “We are going to Jerusalem. The Son of Man {\cf2\super [132]} will be given to the leading priests and teachers of the law. The priests and the teachers of the law will say that the Son of Man must die. They will give the Son of Man to the non-Jewish people.


Surely you have read this Scripture {\cf2\super [153]} :


Then Jesus began to teach his followers that the Son of Man {\cf2\super [101]} must suffer many things. Jesus taught that the Son of Man would not be accepted by the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law. Jesus taught that the Son of Man must be killed and then rise from death after three days.


Jesus wanted to teach his followers alone. Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man {\cf2\super [112]} will be given to people that will kill him. After three days, he will rise from death.”


Then Jesus talked to the twelve apostles {\cf2\super [292]} alone. Jesus said to them, “Listen! We are going to Jerusalem. Everything that God told the prophets {\cf2\super [293]} to write about the Son of Man {\cf2\super [294]} will happen!


They will beat him with whips and then kill him! But on the third day after his death, he will rise to life again.”


Jesus said to them, “It is written that the Christ {\cf2\super [398]} would be killed and rise from death on the third day.


Then Jesus said, “The Son of Man {\cf2\super [170]} must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and teachers of the law. The Son of Man will be killed. But after three days he will be raised from death.”


He came to the world that was his own. But his own people did not accept him.


This was to make clear the full meaning of what Isaiah the prophet {\cf2\super [204]} said:


But today you have rejected your God. Your God saves you from all your troubles and problems. But you said, ‘No, we want a king to rule us.’ Now come, stand before the Lord in your families and family groups.”


The Lord told Samuel, “Do what the people tell you. They have not rejected you. They have rejected me! They don’t want me to be their king!
