The Lord saw that all the Israelites had many troubles, slaves and free men. No person was left that could help Israel.


Our God, you are the great God,\par the awesome, powerful soldier!\par And you are kind and loyal!\par You keep your agreement!\par We have had many troubles.\par And our troubles are important to you!\par Bad things happened to all our people,\par and to our kings and leaders,\par and to our priests and prophets.\par Those terrible things have happened\par from the days of the king of Assyria\par until today!\par


Lord, see my suffering and rescue me.\par I have not forgotten your teachings.\par


Lord, those people are wicked.\par Don’t let them have what they want.\par Don’t let their plans succeed.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [640]})\i0 \par

Then the Lord said, “I have seen the troubles my people have suffered in Egypt. And I have heard their cries when the Egyptians hurt them. I know about their pain.


The people believed that God had sent Moses. The people of Israel knew that God had seen their troubles, and that he had come to help them. So they bowed down and worshiped God.


Again I saw that many people are treated badly. I saw their tears. And I saw that there was no one to comfort those sad people. I saw cruel people had all the power. And I saw that there was no one to comfort the people they hurt.


This will happen because Jerusalem has stumbled \{and has done wrong\}. Judah has fallen \{and has stopped following God\}. The things they say and do are against the Lord. The Lord’s glorious eyes clearly see all these things.


Lord, please listen to me. Lord, open your eyes and look at this message. Hear the words that Sennacherib sent to insult you, the living God!


But who did you insult and make fun of?\par Who did you speak against?\par You were against the Holy One of Israel!\par You acted like you were better than him!\par


Yes, you were upset at me.\par I heard your proud insults.\par So I will put my hook in your nose.\par And I will put my bit {\cf2\super [356]} in your mouth.\par Then I will turn you around\par and lead you back the way you came.’”\par


The commander’s master, the king of Assyria, has sent him to say bad things about the living God. Maybe the Lord your God will hear all those things. Maybe the Lord will prove the enemy is wrong! So pray for the people that are still left alive.”


Speak kindly to Jerusalem!\par Tell Jerusalem,\par ‘Your time of service is finished.\par You have paid the price for your sins.’”\par The Lord punished Jerusalem—\par twice for every sin she did.\par


You said,\par ‘I will live forever.\par I will always be The Queen.’\par You didn’t even notice the bad things\par you did to those people.\par You didn’t think about what would happen.\par


Troubles came to Jerusalem in groups of two; stealing and rationing food, great hunger and fighting.


“You poor city!\par Enemies came against you like storms.\par And no one comforted you.\par But I will build you again.\par I will use a beautiful mortar\par to lay the stones of your walls.\par I will use sapphire stones\par when I lay the foundation.\par


I saw the terrible things you did. {\cf2\super [117]} \par I saw you laughing\par and having sex with your lovers.\par I know about your plans\par to be like a prostitute. {\cf2\super [118]} \par I have seen you on the hills\par and in the fields.\par It will be very bad for you, Jerusalem.\par I wonder how long you will continue doing\par your dirty sins.”\par


No person will bring food to the people that are crying for the dead. No person will comfort those people whose mother or father has died. No person will offer a drink to comfort the people that are crying for the dead.


You have blood on your hands!\par It is the blood of the poor, innocent people.\par You did not catch those people\par breaking into your house!\par You killed them for no reason!\par


“Moab thought he was more important\par than the Lord.\par So punish Moab until he staggers\par like a drunk person.\par Moab will fall and roll around in his vomit.\par People will make fun of Moab.\par


The prophets tell lies.\par The priests will not do\par what they were chosen to do. {\cf2\super [36]} \par And my people love it this way!\par But what will you people do\par when your punishment comes?”\par


“Call for the men that shoot arrows.\par Tell them to attack Babylon.\par Tell them to surround the city.\par Don’t let anyone escape.\par Pay her back for the bad things she has done.\par Do to her what she has done\par to other nations.\par Babylon did not respect the Lord.\par Babylon was very rude\par to the Holy One of Israel.\par So punish Babylon.\par


Zion {\cf2\super [6]} spread out her hands.\par There was no person to comfort her.\par The Lord had given orders to Jacob’s {\cf2\super [7]} enemies.\par The Lord ordered Jacob’s enemies\par to surround the city.\par Jerusalem has become something dirty.\par She is something dirty among those enemies.\par


“Listen to me, because I am groaning!\par I have no person to comfort me.\par All my enemies have heard of my trouble.\par They are happy.\par They are happy that you did this to me.\par You said there would be a time of punishment.\par You said you would punish my enemies.\par Now do what you said.\par Let my enemies be like I am now.\par


Daughter of Zion, {\cf2\super [18]} \par what can I compare you to?\par What can I compare you to,\par Virgin Daughter of Zion {\cf2\super [19]} ?\par How can I comfort you?\par Your destruction is as big as the sea!\par I don’t think anyone can heal you.\par


See how the gold has grown dark.\par See how the good gold is changed.\par There are jewels {\cf2\super [25]} scattered all around.\par They are scattered at every street corner.\par


Remember, Lord, what happened to us.\par Look and see our disgrace.\par


“So, I (the Lord) will say romantic words to her. I will lead her into the desert and speak tender words.


Those things will happen to the people of Moab and Ammon because they were so proud and because they were cruel to the people of the Lord All-Powerful and they humiliated them.


Many Jews had come to Martha and Mary. They came to comfort them about their brother \{Lazarus\}.


Then we prayed to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, [158] and complained about them. And the Lord heard us. He saw our trouble, our hard work, and our suffering.


But I know what their enemies would say. The enemy would not understand. They would brag and say, “The Lord did not destroy Israel. We won by our own power!”’


If they were wise, they would understand, they would know what would happen to them!


It is time for judging to begin. That judging will begin with God’s family. If that judgment begins with us, then what will happen to those people who don’t accept the Good News {\cf2\super [29]} of God?


She made a special promise to God. She said, “Lord All-Powerful, see how very sad I am. Remember me! Don’t forget me. If you will give me a son, then I will give him to you. He will be a Nazirite: He will not drink wine or strong drink. [9] And no one will ever cut his hair. [10] ”
