They defeated powerful cities.\par They took the fertile land.\par They got houses filled with good things.\par They got wells that were already dug.\par They got vineyards, olive trees, and plenty of fruit trees!\par They ate until they were full and fat.\par They enjoyed all the wonderful things\par you gave them.\par


God gives us plenty of good things.\par He makes us young again,\par like an eagle.\par


My soul, relax!\par The Lord is caring for you.\par


I sing a happy song to the Lord\par because he did good things for me.\par


Poor people, come eat and be satisfied. {\cf2\super [134]} \par You people who came looking for the Lord, praise him!\par May your hearts be happy {\cf2\super [135]} forever!\par


When trouble comes,\par good people will not be destroyed.\par When times of hunger come,\par good people will have plenty to eat.\par


May people praise you, God!\par May all people praise you.\par


Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel!\par Only God can do such amazing things.\par


Lord, you are my God.\par I honor you and praise your name.\par You have done amazing things.\par The words you said long ago\par are completely true.\par Everything has happened\par exactly as you said it would.\par


So the Lord speaks to Jacob’s family. (This is the Lord that made Abraham free.) The Lord says, “Now Jacob (the people of Israel) will not be embarrassed and ashamed.


But Israel will be saved by the Lord.\par That salvation will continue forever.\par Never, never again will Israel be shamed.\par


Kings will be teachers to your children.\par Kings’ daughters will care for them.\par Those kings and their daughters\par will bow down to you.\par They will kiss the dirt at your feet.\par Then you will know\par that I am the Lord.\par Then you will know\par that any person who trusts in me\par will not be disappointed.”\par


Don’t be afraid!\par You will not be disappointed.\par People will not say bad things against you.\par You will not be embarrassed.\par When you were young, you felt shame.\par But you will forget that shame now.\par You will not remember the shame that\par you felt when you lost your husband.\par


Why waste your money on something\par that is not real food?\par Why should you work for something\par that does not really satisfy you?\par Listen very closely to me,\par and you will eat the good food.\par You will enjoy the food\par that satisfies your soul.\par


And the land will produce good crops for you. Then you will have plenty of food and you will live safely on the land.


I will give you a share of the grain {left in that city}. {But there will be very little food to eat.} Ten women will be able to cook all their bread in one oven. They will measure each piece of bread. You will eat, but you will still be hungry!


Your threshing [442] will continue until it is time to gather grapes. And your grape gathering will continue until it is time to plant. Then you will have plenty to eat. And you will live safely in your land.


You will eat,\par but you will not become full.\par You will still be hungry and empty. {\cf2\super [77]} \par You will try to bring people in to safety.\par But people with swords\par will kill the people you rescued!\par


“Then, Jerusalem, you will no longer be ashamed of the bad things your people do against me. Why? Because I will remove all of those bad people from Jerusalem. I will take away all of those proud people. There won’t be any of those proud people on my holy mountain. {\cf2\super [21]}


The Lord All-Powerful will protect them.\par The soldiers will use rocks and slings {\cf2\super [25]} \par to defeat the enemy.\par They will spill the blood of their enemies.\par It will flow like wine.\par It will be like the blood that is thrown\par on the corners of the altar!\par


Everything will be good and beautiful!\par There will be a wonderful crop,\par but it will not be just the food and wine.\par It will be all the young men and women!\par


Yes, the Scripture {\cf2\super [104]} says, “Any person that trusts in him (Christ) will never be disappointed.” {\cf2\super [105]}


And this hope will never disappoint us—\{it will never fail\}. Why? Because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts. God gave us his love through the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [48]} That Holy Spirit was a gift to us from God.


The Scripture {\cf2\super [97]} talks about that stone:


And I will make grass grow in your fields for your cows. You will have plenty to eat.’


Come to that place with all your people—your children, all your servants, and the Levites [76] living in your towns. (These Levites will not have a share of the land for their own.) Enjoy yourselves together there with the Lord your God.


You must eat those offerings only at the place where the Lord your God will be together with you—the special place that the Lord your God will choose. You must go there and eat together with your sons, your daughters, all your servants, and the Levites [79] living in your towns. Enjoy yourselves there with the Lord your God. Enjoy the things you have worked for.


You and your families will eat together at that place, and the Lord your God will be there with you. At that place, you will enjoy sharing the things you worked for. You will remember that the Lord your God blessed you and gave you those good things.


You will have all you want to eat. Then you will praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.


Give this command to the people who are rich with the things this world has. Tell them not to be proud. Tell those rich people to hope in God, not their money. Money cannot be trusted. But God takes care of us richly. He gives us everything to enjoy.


Yes, my dear children, live in him. If we do this, we can be without fear (have confidence) on the day when Christ comes back. We will not need to hide and be ashamed when he comes.
