I have cried a river of tears\par because people don’t obey your teachings.\par


My enemy constantly \{makes fun of me\}.\par He says, “Where is your God?\par \{Has he come to save you yet?\}”\par \{I am so sad\} that my only food\par is the tears \{that fall from my eyes\}.\par


I would go far, far away into the desert.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [327]})\i0 \par


“I will cry with the peopleof Jazer and Sibmah\par because the grapes have been destroyed.\par I will cry with the people\par of Heshbon and Elealeh\par because there will be no harvest.\par There will be no summer fruit.\par And there will be no shouts of joy.\par


So I say,\par “Don’t look at me!\par Let me cry!\par Don’t rush to comfort me about\par the destruction of Jerusalem.”\par


If you people of Judah don’t listen to the Lord,\par I will hide and cry.\par Your pride will cause me to cry.\par I will cry very hard.\par My eyes will overflow with tears.\par Why? Because the Lord’s flock {\cf2\super [111]} \par will be captured.\par


“Jeremiah, speak this message\par to the people of Judah:\par ‘My eyes are filled with tears.\par I will cry night and day without stopping.\par I will cry for my virgin daughter. {\cf2\super [123]} \par I will cry for my people.\par Why? Because someone hit them\par and crushed them.\par They have been hurt very badly.\par


Israel’s unfaithful sister (Judah) did not come back to me with her whole heart. She only pretended that she came back to me.” This message was from the Lord.


Oh, my sadness and worry is making\par my stomach hurt.\par I am bent over in pain.\par Oh, I am so scared.\par My heart is pounding inside me.\par I can’t keep quiet. Why?\par Because I have heard the trumpet blow.\par The trumpet is calling the army to war!\par


\{God said,\}\par “Judah, give me one good reason\par why I should forgive you.\par Your children have abandoned me.\par They made promises to idols\par And those idols are not really gods!\par I gave your children everything they needed.\par But they still were unfaithful to me!\par They spent much time with prostitutes.\par


My people, put on sackcloth {\cf2\super [47]} ,\par and roll in the ashes. {\cf2\super [48]} \par Cry loud for the dead people.\par Cry like you lost an only son.\par Do these things because the destroyer\par will come against us very quickly.\par


God, I am very sad and afraid.\par


\{The people say,\}\par ‘Let those women come quickly\par and cry for us.\par Then our eyes will fill with tears,\par and streams of water will come\par out of our eyes.’\par


My eyes are worn out with tears!\par My insides are upset!\par My heart feels like it has been poured\par on the ground!\par I feel this way because of the destruction\par of my people.\par Children and babies are fainting.\par They are fainting in the public squares\par of the city.\par


“‘In Jerusalem, you men take money to kill people. You people lend money and charge interest on those loans. You people cheat their neighbors just to make a little money. And you people have forgotten me.’ The Lord my Master said these things.


A baker presses dough \{to make bread\}.\par \{He puts the bread in the oven.\}\par The baker does not make the fire hotter\par while the bread is rising.\par \{But the people of Israel are not like that.\}\par The people of Israel are always making\par their fire hotter.\par
