Jeremiah 6:29
12 Tagairtí Cros

Gold and silver are put into fire to make them pure. But the Lord is the One who makes peoples’ hearts pure.

I said,\par “I worked hard for nothing.\par I wore myself out,\par but I did nothing useful.\par I used all my power,\par but I did not really do anything.\par So, the Lord must decide\par what to do with me.\par God must decide my reward.\par

Then, the Lord said,\par “Jeremiah, if you change\par and come back to me,\par then I will not punish you.\par If you change and come back to me,\par then you can serve me.\par If you speak important things,\par and not those worthless words,\par then you can speak for me.\par The people of Judah should change\par and come back to you \{Jeremiah\}.\par But don’t you change\par and be like them.\par

So, the Lord All-Powerful says:\par “A worker heats metal in a fire\par to test if it is pure.\par I will test the people of Judah like that.\par I have no other choice.\par My people have sinned.\par

“‘\{Jerusalem\} might work hard\par to scrub away her stains.\par But that ‘rust’ won’t go away!\par Only fire (punishment) will remove\par that rust!\par

“‘You sinned against me\par and became stained with sin.\par I wanted to wash you and make you clean.\par But the stains would not come out.\par I won’t try washing you again\par until my hot anger is finished with you!\par

“My people expect me to come back. They will call to God above. But God will not help them.”

Then I will test those survivors. I will give them many troubles. The troubles will be like the fire a man uses to prove silver is pure. I will test them the way a person tests gold. Then they will call to me for help, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘You are my people.’ And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

Why do these troubles happen? To prove that your faith is pure (true). This purity of faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. The purity of your faith will bring you praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ appears (comes).

My friends, don’t be surprised at the painful things that you are now suffering. Those things are testing your faith. Don’t think that something strange is happening to you.

But Micah gave the silver back to his mother. So she took about 5 pounds [126] of the silver and gave them to a silversmith. [127] The silversmith used the silver to make a statue covered with silver. The statue was put in Micah’s house.
